Germanic Warrior

Cloak, tunic, trousers and shield.

Following on from the pre-highlighting of the clothing and cloak first off the cloak has had many layers added using a kind of pointilism/crosshatch technique to create a texture for the heavy woolen cloak material.

Some brown filters have been added for weathering. I always thin the paint with Vallejo Matt Medium when weathering to make it less opaque so as not to overdo it.

Here blending has begun on the tunic using midtones.

Here we have the tunic at it's conclusion along with the trousers and equipment, all in a productive 2 hour session.

Shield was next. Done using a combination of designs from my reference material with a mind to make it harmonious with the other colours present in the vignette.

Still a few bits to be done but almost there. Onto the Roman's shield next!

70mm Roman & Germanic Warrior

This has become a bit of a slow burner of a project with little bits of work being done here and there. Not going to rush this one!

Whilst painting busts I have been doing a bit of work on the bases for these figures using a mixture of putty and natural materials.

I was searching for a suitable twig to use as a log for the Roman to be putting his front foot on but couldn't find one with a bark that I was happy with so I ended up stripping a twig of it's bark and supergluing bark from another branch cutting (which had bark that I liked but was the wrong shape) onto it.

Here with the bark being added to the stripped twig.

For the Germanic Warriors bas I wanted a rotten stump as a feature which I made out of MagicSculpt.


Here it is in it's various stages of completion.

A spray of Jo Sonjas Carbon Black has been applied to both bases and figures at which point I remembered that I had made some mushrooms to attach to the stump and log which I have now put on after the priming.

 

 

I have made up some toadstool mushrooms to be added into the ground in and around the growth on the stump and log which will be added later.

Still a long way to go with building up this groundwork.

Roman Officer & Germanic Warrior

Nocturna 70mm vignette

Another WIP added to the workbench and more Noctura figures, I have a thing for these at the moment it seems. This is going to be a two figure vignette on separate bases which will join to make a single piece.
Using a compound mitre saw I have cut up a couple of wood blocks at the same angle that fit nice and neatly together. The German will take the high ground and be bearing down on the Roman from out of the cover of the forest. This will probably take over as my next work to see through to completion as it seems to be the thing most occupying my mind at the moment.
