Native American Indians (kind of SBS)

Sioux vs Old Guard!

Bit of a day time painting session with my friend Lee down in the cave.

No work today so on with painting the Sioux in the company of long time buddy Lee who's been working his painting apprenticeship in 28mm with some Perry Miniatures Old Guard.

I managed to progress the Sioux to this stage
Nice to see some colours appearing. I've added some highlights to the feathers and blocked in the reds and blues as well as the coup stick.

Native American Indians (kind of SBS)

Pawnee & Sioux Indians

More work on the fleshtones on the Sioux Indian using the Jo Sonja, still a little refining left to do. Started the feathers but yet to apply any highlights.

Native American Indians (kind of SBS)

Pawnee & Sioux Indians

I dug these old figures out that I bought nearly 20 years ago and thought I'd try and do them justice. One is the Metal Modeles 90mm Sioux and the other a Pawnee bust in 1/10th scale by Poste Militaire. These were bought before a 15 year hiatus from the hobby so it was nice to see that the sculpts still stand up to today's high standards. They were already assembled and primed in white, so as is my current practice I re-primed them both black with Vallejo black primer through the airbrush.

Black primed with some pre-highlights in pale flesh
With Jo Sonja acrylics I made up 9 skin tones on the wet palette. 3 highlights, 3 mid tones and 3 greyed shades.
Getting straight on with the bust I've begun to colour sketch the various tones

And a little more work

At this point with the bust I will probably leave the flesh as it is. This is because I want to overpaint with oils using exactly the same flesh mixes. We'll see how that turns out!

With the 90mm figure I've progressed it a little further choosing to remain with the acrylics.

A bit more work done on the flesh and a photo that's not as overexposed!
